Similar thing happened to me about five years ago, and I called the
local FBI office.

Turns out to be a fairly common scam. The FBI told me to ignore it.

My club has a trailer for a Twin Astir that could well attract death
threats. I've certainly felt like doing bodily harm to the guy that
built it whenever I have to use it.

Seriously though, this is the first time I've heard of this particular
scam. I've seen quite a few advance fee fraud attempts when selling
two of our club gliders but never this. I suppose that as the scammer
is saying that someone else tried to hire him to kill you he's not
really making an actual death threat which is why the F.B.I. told mike
to just ignore it.

How do you know he got your e-mail address from the ad?

It seems to me that one of the trailers below would be more likely to
justify a death theat. Or at least a blinding.

Death threat? I was thinking they might have caused suicides by previous
owners.

Hmmm. I'm no lawyer but isn't conveying a death threat by interstate
means a federal crime which falls squarely in the FBI's turf? They're
probably too busy but if someone could trace the e-mail.... Maybe
I've been watching too many TV crime shows.

You may recall when an officer of a Colorado club had his name used to
convey a threat to a power flying club in another city. We were able
to ID the IP to the sheriff in the relevant county and said person was
dealt with after a bit of sleuthing.

They probably do not give much attention to known scams. Frankly,
Rachel at Cardholders Services, is a much bigger problem.

How much does he want to not kill you? I have a guy who won't do it

This guy was too stupid to set up an elaborate scam so he just says
he'll kill you.
Quite a new approach!
I would bet you he is in some 3rd world country and that is why the
FBI is not interested.
